QUEER DAZE ACCESSIBILITY REPORT

SATURDAY 29 NOVEMBER, 12pm - 5pm

What to Expect at Queer Daze - Inclusion Festival:

  • The event will be in the front bar of the Bank Hotel, also known as the Public Bar or Street Level Bar, but you can go to any part of the hotel where patrons are allowed.

  • Queer Daze will have DJs playing indie/alternative/ rock music. The music will be kept at speaking level as much as possible, so you can talk to your companions easily.

  • There will be no flashing lights at the event. Loud sounds inside the pub will be kept to a minimum, but there are loud buses that drive past the pub on King St.

  • Free stim toys, colouring books with pencils, and earplugs will be available for use during the event.

  • There is no assistive technology for Deaf or hard of hearing people at this event, as the venue is not suitable. There are no Auslan interpreters for the event as there is no spoken word.

  • Bar staff are not able to interpret Auslan. It is recommended you provide your requests in writing, e.g. on the Notes app on an iphone.

  • There are tables and chairs to sit at in the front bar, while you listen to music and socialise. Limited wheelchair level tables will be available. It’s recommended that you make a booking through the Bank Hotel’s website and put in the ‘Anything else we should know’ section: ‘I need a wheelchair accessible table’.

  • You can buy drinks and order food at the bar. There will be QR codes on the table that you scan with your phone to see the menu, or you can ask the staff behind the bar.

  • The menu at the Bank Hotel has several vegetarian and gluten free options. There are knives and forks available. Straws for drinks will be provided by bar staff.

Physical Accessibility at The Bank Hotel, Newtown:

  • The Bank Hotel has flat access from the front door and through the entirety of the front bar.

  • The mat at the front entrance of the Bank Hotel is rough and brush like. It can cause minor steering problems for wheelchairs and walkers.

  • The accessible toilet is on the lower floor, which you access via the lift. The lift can be found inside the venue, past the front bar room, approximately 10 steps from the front bar itself. The lift is adjacent to the entrance of the back bar.

  • To call the lift, you must press the bottom button on the panel, on both levels of the lift entrance.

  • The inside of the lift is small. It would not have enough room for most wheelchairs to turn around. You can safely reverse out when you reach your destination.

  • When you exit the lift, facing out, the accessible toilet is to the right. The toilet is down a hallway, and the door can be found on the left hand wall of the hallway.

  • The accessible toilet door is not automatic and needs to be pushed by hand. It is not heavy but still requires a small amount of force.

  • There is enough room in the accessible toilet for a motorised wheelchair to turn around.  There is no hoist. If you cannot transfer by yourself, you will need to bring a carer for assistance.
